Pablo’s Story

Brother Patrick (Pablo) Keohane died tragically in accident in 2019 while on home leave from his mission in Peru. He grew in Cork city and joined the Christian Brothers where he served for many years in Irish schools. While still in his early thirties he volunteered for assignment to missions in Latin America and was for many years an inspiring teacher, catechist and youth leader at Colegio Cardenal Newman in Buenos Aires. He later transferred across the Andes to Peru where he began to work with young people in schools and parishes. He very quickly became aware of the immense poverty of the people. He began to work with the poor and established contact with schools in the USA who were in a position to send some youth volunteers to assist in the work. In time, he and the young people built houses for the poor in the hills around La Paz, in the barrio known as Canto Grande. The local people called him Pablo and the name stuck. His story is a story of compassion, resilience and faith-inspired action. His life has become an inspiration for many people around the world. The video below was created to commemorate his passage to eternal life.
